Since Roman times, Lavender has been recognized for its unmistakable perfume, healing and anticeptic qualities, its ability to deter insects, and for washing.
Lavender is very particular to siting and must be in full sun with very well drained soil. The foliage should be cut back in the spring to accommodate the new growth.
