Basil comes from the Greek word meaning 'King'. Still considered 'The King of Herbs.' In Italy, basil has been and still is a sign of love.
To promote a bushy plant, pinch back the growing tips. Prefers well-drained, rich soil. Appreciates a manure compost mixed with soil. Mulch basil after the soil has warmed up.
