This sun-loving herb is spicy and very aromatic in the garden as well as in your culinary uses. A mounded herb with small, round aromatic leaves. Bears tiny white flowers with pink bracts in early summer. A must for every herb garden. Use the flowers and leaves for pasta, vegetables and in egg dishes. Performs well in a container, inside and outside.
Oregano derives from the Greek words meaning 'joy of the mountain'.
It is an excellent source of vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K, B-complex, potassium, calcium, iron, and magnesium.
You can harvest when plants are about at peak bloom for most flavorful selections. Gardeners recommend planting oregano with beans to enhance their growth. Preserve by air-drying and keep in an airtight container. Grows in any sunny, well-drained location. Prefers poorsoil and hot, dry conditions.
